The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has forecast heavy rain with thunder and strong winds in 22 districts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, including Coimbatore and the Nilgiris.

In its bulletin, the weather office said the highest rainfall recorded in the state on Monday was 9 cm each at Thirumalvadi and Vellagoundanpalayam in Dharmapuri district.

The forecast is linked to an upper-air cyclonic circulation over south Kerala and adjoining areas, and another circulation over the Lakshadweep region adjoining the southeast Arabian Sea.

The RMC said moderate rain is likely at a few places in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry today and tomorrow, and may continue till June 7.

Districts likely to receive heavy rain with lightning and strong winds today are: Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Karur, Namakkal, Erode, Salem, Tiruchirappalli, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupathur, Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Kanniyakumari.
