A 16-year-old Plus Two student from Perungalathur in Chengalpattu district has successfully climbed Mount Everest, drawing widespread appreciation for her achievement.
Nisha, daughter of mountaineer Sasikumar and Aruna, studies at APL Global School in Thoraipakkam. Inspired by watching her father, she developed an early ambition to scale major peaks and set records.
She is pursuing the goal of summiting the highest peaks on all seven continents. According to the report, she has already completed five peaks, earning a world record as India’s youngest female climber to do so.
Speaking about her Everest climb, Nisha said she underwent two years of intense preparation, including a month of breathing training inside a hypoxic tent to adapt to low-oxygen conditions. She also trained in a gym using a mask that reduces oxygen intake and spent 45 days on the expedition, staying at multiple camps and using oxygen cylinders.
Her next target is Denali in Alaska, where she expects extreme temperatures of -50°C to -60°C and noted that Sherpa support is not available there. She said climbers must carry their own supplies weighing around 50 to 60 kilograms. Her father added that she aims to become the world’s youngest woman to complete all seven summits, with plans to head to Antarctica in November after Denali.
