Chennai: Police across Tamil Nadu have begun a statewide survey to map the number of temples, churches and mosques, along with other key locations within each police station’s jurisdiction.
The exercise covers all 1,321 law-and-order police stations in the state. Within each station boundary, personnel are collecting details on places of worship, schools and colleges, residences of senior government officials and prominent political leaders, hostels for men and women, and gyms.
Police are also compiling information under 26 categories, including the residences of known rowdies, locations with frequent disputes, suspected persons, software companies, water bodies such as lakes, ponds and rivers, TASMAC outlets, and cemeteries.
Senior police officials said the survey is aimed at updating existing station records, enabling quicker deployment to new or identified locations, and strengthening crime-prevention measures.
