Chennai: Chief Minister Vijay has instructed urban local bodies to prioritise sanitation and greenery, setting a six-month timeline to deliver measurable improvements across corporations and municipalities.
Officials said the Chief Minister has kept the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department under his direct control, with the stated aim of upgrading urban areas to international standards.
At a recent review meeting, he directed commissioners and relevant officials to conduct morning inspections daily. During field visits, they have been asked to ensure the removal of garbage, construction debris and unauthorised posters wherever found.
The Chief Minister also stressed expanding green cover along roadsides and on centre medians. He called for household-level waste segregation, recycling and scientific disposal instead of dumping waste at a single location.
Action will be taken against officials who fail to carry out the work properly, officials said, adding that the Chief Minister is also expected to undertake direct inspections at multiple locations.
