New Delhi: The Union government has transferred the CBSE chairman and secretary in the wake of allegations of irregularities linked to the board’s recent examination evaluation process. A one-member committee has also been set up to identify lapses and submit findings.

This year, CBSE uploaded Class 12 answer sheets digitally for evaluation. After results were declared, the board introduced an on-screen marking (OSM) system for re-evaluation and marks verification.

Students complained of technical glitches in the process, alleging that some answer sheets were not clearly visible and that certain responses were not fully uploaded. CBSE has acknowledged the issue and said steps are being taken to strengthen the technology.

Amid the controversy, the Ministry of Education sought an explanation from CBSE regarding the matter. Subsequently, chairman Rahul Singh and secretary Himanshu Gupta were transferred.

Senior IAS officer Lokande Prashant Sitaram has been appointed as the new CBSE chairman, while Varun Bhardwaj has been named as the new secretary. The probe panel, headed by Rahul Chauhan, is expected to submit its report within a month.
