Congress has reportedly invited Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to take part in the INDIA alliance’s consultation meeting scheduled for June 8 in Delhi.

The development comes after the Tamil Nadu Assembly election, in which TVK won a large number of seats and formed the government with the support of Congress, VCK, CPI(M), CPI and the Muslim League.

According to the report, Congress, which was earlier part of the DMK-led alliance, joined the TVK camp after the election without informing the DMK leadership. This has led to a sharp breakdown in ties between DMK and Congress, and has also raised the possibility of DMK stepping away from the INDIA bloc at the national level.

The INDIA alliance, formed ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha election, included parties such as Congress, Samajwadi Party, AAP, NCP, DMK, VCK and the Muslim League. The report said differences within the bloc intensified after Congress suffered setbacks in northern state elections, with DMK’s stance on “Sanatana” becoming a point of friction.

Sources said TVK has been invited for the June 8 meeting, while DMK has not been invited.
