IPS officer Mahesh Kumar Agarwal on Tuesday assumed charge as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Tamil Nadu.
Senior police officials greeted him after he took over the post.
Speaking on priorities, Agarwal said action would be taken to maintain law and order across the state.
He also said measures would be stepped up to control the circulation of narcotic substances, reiterating the focus on a drug-free Tamil Nadu.
