AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Vijay, alleging that even after assuming office he continues to behave like a “reel hero” delivering punch lines rather than addressing governance.
In a statement, Palaniswami cited the killing of 23-year-old Vishnu in Chennai’s Tondiarpet after the youth questioned alleged ganja sales. He asked whether murder was the “answer” for raising concerns about narcotics and questioned the government’s claim of “change”.
Referring to Vijay’s remarks in Tiruchirappalli, Palaniswami said appointing officials alone would not bring results, as the same bureaucracy serves under every administration. He argued that real change must come from the rulers and accused the Chief Minister, who holds the police portfolio, of attempting to evade responsibility for law and order.
Palaniswami also criticised the last-minute cancellation of the launch event for the “Singappen” special force, alleging it was dropped to accommodate a function at the Chief Minister’s aide’s residence. He further pointed to the arrest of two TVK functionaries in a gang sexual assault case near Thoothukudi and questioned how the Chief Minister could manage the police if he could not control his party members.
