Chennai: Candidates who contested the Tamil Nadu Assembly election have been asked to submit their election expense accounts by June 3, the Election Commission has said.

With the election completed and a new government in place, the Commission reiterated that filing the expense statement is mandatory and that June 3 is the final date for submission.

According to the report, more than a thousand candidates have already filed their accounts. The submitted statements are being scrutinised by expenditure observers.

Candidates who fail to submit the details by the deadline will be issued a notice seeking an explanation. If the response is not found satisfactory, the Election Commission may impose a ban preventing the candidate from contesting elections for the next three years.
