Chennai: The ruling TVK leadership has decided to conduct a training programme for Tamil Nadu ministers in a style similar to what late former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa followed during the AIADMK regime, according to senior party functionaries.

They said Chief Minister Vijay has so far avoided giving press interviews for “strategic reasons”, while there is no restriction from the leadership on ministers and MLAs speaking to the media. However, some ministers have drawn criticism on social media after giving interviews without adequate knowledge of their departments.

The lack of departmental experience has also reportedly led to difficulties for several ministers during review meetings. To address this, the leadership plans to use subject experts to brief ministers on key departmental information and train them on how to communicate government schemes effectively to the public.

The training sessions are expected to be held two days a week. In addition, ministers have been instructed not to respond to general or political questions during press interactions, and to limit themselves to department-related queries, the functionaries said.
