New Delhi: Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Thursday (June 4), which also marks his birthday.

Annamalai, who travelled to Delhi from Chennai on a sudden visit, has been camping in the national capital for the past few days and meeting senior BJP leaders. He met BJP general secretary (organisation) B L Santhosh to discuss his decision, according to sources.

Sources further claimed that Annamalai met BJP national president J P Nadda and conveyed that he intends to leave the party, handing over a related letter. He also met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the latter’s residence, where he reportedly spoke about quitting the BJP and the possibility of starting a new organisation, and sought his blessings.

Annamalai is expected to return to Tamil Nadu on Friday. There is speculation that he may make a key announcement on launching a new party during a media interaction.
