Chennai: Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Secretary Srinivasan has tendered his resignation, even though his service extension was due to run until September, according to information circulating within the Assembly Secretariat.
Srinivasan, who rose through the Assembly’s news division and was known for his command over House rules, had served across both AIADMK and DMK tenures. Secretariat circles say his role was significant in ensuring sensitive proceedings—such as confidence-related votes and the passage of Bills—were conducted without major disruptions.
Sources claim that after the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government assumed office, it faced a situation where it needed to demonstrate its majority. They allege that Srinivasan helped conduct the voting smoothly and also offered guidance on how the Chief Minister and ministers should proceed.
According to the same sources, this reportedly did not go down well with the Chief Minister’s adviser and two ministers, who are said to have treated Srinivasan with less respect, including one minister allegedly addressing him in an inappropriate manner. The sources add that a hurt Srinivasan chose to resign, and that the matter was kept from Chief Minister Vijay.
These claims have been attributed to Secretariat sources, and no official statement has been cited in the report.
