AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) on Wednesday alleged that a conspiracy was behind the reported theft of hard disks from the Tamil Nadu power department’s head office in Chennai.

In a statement, EPS referred to media reports claiming that 18 hard disks containing key information had gone missing from the electricity board’s headquarters. He questioned how tender-related data could disappear under a government that projects itself as promoting “clean energy”.

EPS said the incident could not be treated as an ordinary theft, arguing that there appeared to be an ulterior motive and an attempt to protect someone. He also suggested that the episode might be aimed at shielding a party that had made claims about “energy”.

Calling for the truth to come out, EPS demanded a proper investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the hard disk theft.
