BENGALURU: Karnataka Chief Minister Shivakumar on Tuesday announced that free bus passes will be provided to all school and college students in the state, enabling them to travel free of cost on government buses.
The decision was taken at the first cabinet meeting of the new government held at Vidhana Soudha on Tuesday evening. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the Chief Minister said the move followed questions raised by various sections on why free bus travel was limited only to women.
He said the government would coordinate with the transport department and soon announce how students can apply for the passes.
Shivakumar also indicated that plans related to appointing youth in government jobs would be announced shortly, and that the state would set up a private employment office where job seekers can register.
