Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Registration Department has ordered the temporary suspension of six district registrars, following a review of pending files linked to audit findings and complaints of irregularities.

In the department’s system, sub-registrars are expected to ensure that property values are correctly stated in documents. Each registration district has a district registrar assigned for audit work, whose team examines documents registered across all sub-registrar offices in that district and recommends action if revenue shortfalls are found.

Complaints had earlier surfaced that various irregularities took place during audits of documents in the previous regime. The report said departmental action was not taken then due to alleged interference by the authorities at the time.

After the change in government, the department’s existing Inspector General is said to have kept files ready on those involved in the alleged irregularities. Newly appointed senior officials reviewed the pending files, based on which the suspension orders were issued.

Those named include Tirupathur district registrar Senthoor Pandian, Krishnagiri district registrar Balasubramanian and Dharmapuri district registrar Kanagaraj, among six officials. Separately, 43 sub-registrars across the state have been transferred on administrative grounds, with postings swapped between administrative duties and registration work, as per an order issued by department head Arunsundar Dayalan.
