A fire at an elderly care home in Sri Lanka has left 11 people dead and seven others injured, according to police.
The incident occurred at a facility in Anguruwatota in Kalutara district, about 65 km southeast of Colombo. The blaze reportedly broke out suddenly on Wednesday.
Police said 10 people died at the scene, while one person succumbed to injuries after being taken to hospital.
Seven injured residents have been admitted for treatment, and the condition of some is said to be critical. Authorities fear the death toll could rise.
