DMK president M K Stalin on Wednesday called on party members to “dispel the darkness surrounding Tamil Nadu” and to “write a new history of victory,” in a statement issued on the occasion of late Chief Minister M Karunanidhi’s 103rd birth anniversary.

Stalin, along with Udhayanidhi Stalin, MP Kanimozhi and senior DMK leaders, paid floral tributes at Karunanidhi’s memorial on Marina Beach in Chennai. He later offered respects at Karunanidhi statues at the Omandurar complex, Kodambakkam and the party headquarters Anna Arivalayam.

At the DMK youth wing headquarters Anbagam in Teynampet, Stalin inaugurated statues of E V Ramasamy (Periyar), C N Annadurai and Karunanidhi. He also hoisted the DMK flag on a 75-foot flagpole installed at the venue.

In his statement, Stalin said Karunanidhi remained the leader who continued to inspire him, recalling his resilience in facing challenges without being carried away by victory or weighed down by defeat. He added that the “rising sun’s light” would help drive away the darkness around Tamil Nadu.
