New Delhi: The Supreme Court has said that securing employment by concealing one’s true educational qualification amounts to depriving others of their rightful opportunity.

The case involved a person working as a temporary bank assistant at Syndicate Bank. He obtained appointment to a post specifically reserved for applicants with education up to Class 10, while allegedly hiding the fact that he was a graduate.

A bench comprising Justices Amanullah and Mahadevan heard the matter and upheld the employee’s termination, affirming that the appointment was obtained by suppressing material information.

The court observed that when higher-qualified candidates hide their qualifications to enter posts meant for those with lower educational eligibility, it effectively denies genuine eligible applicants the chance for which such posts are created.

The judges noted that positions specially designed for candidates with lower educational qualifications cannot be opened to those with higher qualifications, particularly when such qualifications are concealed during recruitment.
