An MoU for investments worth Rs 18,600 crore was signed on Thursday at the Tamil Nadu Secretariat in Chennai in the presence of Chief Minister Vijay. The agreement was inked between the Tamil Nadu government and Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Ltd.

According to the government, the MoU covers three projects with a combined employment potential of 8,200 people. The initiatives span digital infrastructure, electronics manufacturing and shipbuilding expansion.

The first project is a data centre expansion plan in Kancheepuram district, involving an investment of Rs 15,000 crore and expected to generate 500 jobs. The second is an electronics products and electronic systems manufacturing project in Coimbatore, with Rs 2,500 crore investment and 2,000 jobs.

The third project is the expansion of L&T’s Kattupalli shipyard in Tiruvallur district, with an investment of Rs 1,100 crore and an estimated 5,700 jobs. The government said the investments align with the Chief Minister’s goal of raising Tamil Nadu’s economy to $1.5 trillion by 2036, while strengthening digital infrastructure, AI-related activity and the electronics ecosystem, and supporting global-standard infrastructure for the offshore wind sector.
