Kolkata: The BJP government in West Bengal, led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, has increased the monthly stipend for women from Rs 1,500 to Rs 3,000 by launching a new welfare scheme.
Under the previous Trinamool Congress administration, the state implemented the ‘Lakshmir Bandhar’ programme, which provided Rs 1,500 per month to women and Rs 1,700 to tribal women.
During the election campaign, the BJP had promised to raise the assistance to Rs 3,000 a month. In line with that pledge, the government has introduced a replacement scheme named ‘Annapoorna Bandhar’.
The launch event was held on Tuesday under the leadership of Chief Minister Adhikari. As part of the first phase, Rs 3,000 was credited to the bank accounts of 28.5 lakh women.
Officials said the stipend would be extended to all eligible women within the next three months.
