Annamalai, who has been staying in Delhi for the past five days, is scheduled to return to Chennai at 7 pm on Thursday, according to reports.

The development comes after he conveyed to the party’s Delhi leadership that he intended to leave the BJP, citing dissatisfaction. The leadership had earlier asked him to remain in the party until the Assembly election.

With the Assembly election over and a new government formed, Annamalai travelled to Delhi and submitted his resignation. The BJP accepted the decision and announced it officially.

Following the announcement, Annamalai also stated on social media that he has formed a new organisation named “Idhu Namma Iyakkam”. Reports said many people began joining the organisation soon after.

As he returns to Chennai amid claims of large-scale enrolment in the new outfit, supporters have started gathering in the city and are preparing a grand reception for him.
