Chennai: The DMK leadership on Wednesday announced that the party will boycott the INDIA alliance leaders’ consultation meeting scheduled to be held in Delhi on June 8.
In a statement, the DMK said the decision was taken to respect the feelings of its cadre, who it claimed were deeply hurt by what it described as Congress’ “betrayal” after the Assembly election.
The party recalled that Congress contested 28 seats as part of the DMK-led alliance and won five. It noted that after the election, Congress extended support for the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam to form the government and also joined the coalition cabinet.
DMK further said it had played a central role in building the INDIA alliance and that party president M.K. Stalin had consistently raised key public issues. While it will not attend the June 8 meeting where Congress is participating, the DMK said it would continue to speak out on matters affecting national interest raised by other parties in the alliance.
