Anti-corruption police conducted coordinated searches at sub-registrar offices across Tamil Nadu on Wednesday, covering more than 60 locations, according to the report. The raids were led by DVAC DSPs and inspectors, with over 360 personnel deployed.
The action comes amid allegations of bribery in registration offices. Two days earlier, 43 sub-registrars were transferred statewide, the report said.
In Chennai, searches were carried out at Alandur, Virugambakkam and the Tiruvallur joint sub-registrar office. Officials seized Rs 2.50 lakh in unaccounted cash from the Tiruvallur office.
Raids were also reported in Tiruchirappalli (Thuraiyur and Thiruverumbur), Kancheepuram (Sriperumbudur and Sunguvarchatram), and Thanjavur (Karanthai and Vallam). In Vallam, Rs 30,120 was seized from a table in the record room, and searches continued into the night at several offices.
In Madurai district, searches between 3 pm and 7 pm at Vilankudi and Podumbu led to seizures of Rs 90,000 and Rs 11,000 respectively, the report said. Further seizures were reported from Kodaikanal (Rs 23,000), Vikramasingapuram in Tirunelveli district (Rs 40,000), and Virudhunagar where Rs 54,000 was seized from intermediaries and document writers; additional cash was seized during checks at Sattur as well.
