Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Rajmohan on Wednesday said the state would continue efforts to obtain central government funds meant for education and was prepared to travel to Delhi to hold talks with officials if required.

He made the remarks after attending an event at the CMDA Residential Government Model Higher Secondary School in Arumbakkam, Chennai, where free textbooks were distributed to students, a “smart classroom” was inaugurated, and certificates were presented to top scorers in Class 10 and Plus Two.

In his interaction with reporters, the minister said private schools have been asked to disclose the fees they collect in a transparent manner. He also warned that practices such as using intermediaries or paying bribes to get school-related demands addressed would not be allowed going forward.

He said the government would continue processing matters through a single-window system and that complaints against schools that fail to provide fee details would be acted upon.

The minister added that cases filed against teachers and unions with an intent to target them would be withdrawn, and their demands would be examined for appropriate action. He reiterated that pursuing central education funds would not mean stepping back from the state’s two-language policy.
