Reports from Kolkata say internal tensions in West Bengal’s Trinamool Congress (TMC) have intensified, with 23 of the party’s MPs said to be in touch with a group of disgruntled MLAs.

The party, led by Mamata Banerjee, is facing a wave of dissent after losing power in the state. Several leaders are reportedly leaving the TMC and joining other parties, including the BJP.

According to the report, two MLAs who spoke out against Mamata were expelled from the party. Of the party’s 80 MLAs, around 60 are said to have backed the expelled leader, following which Ritabrata Banerjee was chosen as the Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly.

The latest claim is that MPs have also opened channels with the dissatisfied MLA group. The TMC has 21 Lok Sabha MPs and eight Rajya Sabha MPs, and 23 of them are reportedly in contact with the group, with their discontent linked to the functioning of Abhishek Banerjee, Mamata’s relative.
