Norway Chess 2026, the 14th season of the international classical event, is underway in Oslo with a six-player field featuring India’s reigning world champion D Gukesh, R Praggnanandhaa and defending champion Magnus Carlsen.

In Round 9, Praggnanandhaa took on Gukesh in a key all-Indian clash. Gukesh had beaten him earlier in the tournament in Round 5.

This time, Praggnanandhaa, playing with the black pieces, won in 34 moves. The result also marked his third consecutive victory in the event, completing a hat-trick of wins.

In another Round 9 game, world No. 1 Magnus Carlsen lost to American Wesley So. After nine rounds, So leads with 15.5 points, followed by Praggnanandhaa on 15.0 and France’s Alireza on 14.5, while Gukesh is sixth with 8 points.
