COIMBATORE: Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan on Friday said that if the media highlights mistakes, it would make it easier for the government to take corrective action.

Speaking to reporters at Coimbatore airport, he said the southwest monsoon had not caused major impact in Tamil Nadu so far and there was no immediate threat. He added that precautionary safety measures had been put in place in districts including Kanyakumari, Coimbatore and the Nilgiris.

The minister said the Cabinet meeting held on Thursday discussed how each department should function over the next five years, what people expect, and the work that needs to be carried out.

On law and order, he said enforcement had been tightened. Referring to Cauvery water issues, he said the Chief Minister had urged the Prime Minister to prevent the construction of the Mekedatu dam. He also said their alliance remained open-minded.
