Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK leader M.K. Stalin on Friday claimed that the present government is continuing only because of the support extended by the DMK and its alliance partners.
He was speaking at an event in the Chengalpattu constituency where Gajendran, who had contested on the AIADMK ticket, joined the DMK along with his supporters. Stalin said political switches are often driven by expectations of gain and proximity to the ruling party, but asserted that those joining the DMK now were not doing so for posts or personal comfort.
Stalin said the DMK’s work continues regardless of electoral outcomes, describing the party as one that does not become arrogant in victory or lose resolve in defeat. He added that even after losing power, the party continues to function actively as an opposition force.
Referring to alliance partners, Stalin said he had allowed them to act as they wished in the spirit of democracy, while expressing concern that President’s Rule should not be imposed and that the BJP should not come to power on that basis. He said the DMK would work with determination to bring the current government to an end soon.
