Minister Nirmal Kumar on Friday said the procedure followed two years ago for lighting the Deepam at Thiruparankundram will continue and will not be altered.
Speaking to reporters in Madurai, he said people want peace and that continuing the earlier practice reflects both public preference and the government’s policy. He added there was no scope for a different view on the matter.
The minister also said the government would not allow any “communal forces” to enter the issue and do politics.
Responding to a question on why the Chief Minister does not meet reporters frequently, Nirmal Kumar said there should not be a fixed benchmark that a government must meet the media every day. He said the Chief Minister would meet the press when necessary, while the government and party representatives continue to interact with the media.
