Chennai: Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP) Mahesh Kumar Agarwal has instructed police personnel not to harass the public by refusing to receive complaints citing police station jurisdiction limits.
The DGP noted that confusion over which station limits cover a crime location often leads to delays in accepting complaints, forcing complainants to run from one station to another.
In a circular sent to police stations, he said that regardless of where a person lives, complaints related to robbery, accidents or any other offence must be received without excuses.
Police must take the complaint first and then forward it to the appropriate police station. Complainants should also be informed of the contact numbers of the concerned police officers.
The circular warned that immediate departmental action will be initiated against any police personnel who refuse to accept complaints from the public.
