Chennai: Documents and computer hard drives linked to a corruption case against former DMK minister V. Senthil Balaji have been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), officials said.
The case relates to the procurement of 45,800 power transformers during 2021–2023 under the DMK government led by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. The CBI has registered a case alleging irregularities amounting to ₹397 crore, naming Senthil Balaji and government officials.
Separately, tender-related records were reported stolen from the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board’s headquarters on Anna Salai in Chennai. Hard drives containing tender information were also allegedly taken.
Following a complaint, Chintadripet police registered a case and arrested Gopinath, a contract computer operator from Ranipet. Police said they seized 34 hard drives from him.
The seized documents and hard drives have now been transferred to the CBI. Police also handed over certain records that were with the anti-corruption wing, officials added, as the CBI’s probe into the transformer procurement allegations gathers pace.
