VCK is reportedly holding talks with the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), seeking allocation of the Madhurantakam Assembly constituency for the forthcoming by-election.
VCK, which won two seats while contesting as part of the DMK alliance, later extended support to the TVK government formed after the election and also secured a place in the cabinet. Efforts were made to make VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan a minister, and TVK had earlier offered to give him the Trichy East seat vacated after Chief Minister Vijay’s resignation.
However, Thirumavalavan is said to have declined that offer. Meanwhile, amid internal issues within VCK, some members are reportedly preparing to join the DMK. Party leadership is said to be trying to placate them by seeking posts such as board chairmanships and by securing a constituency to contest in the by-election.
According to VCK functionaries, with five Assembly seats now vacant—including four due to resignations by AIADMK members—by-elections are expected. They said VCK has asked TVK to allot Madhurantakam, arguing that the constituency has a significant presence of Vanniyar and Scheduled Caste voters and could be winnable for the party.
They added that even if Madhurantakam is not allotted, VCK has requested any one of the vacant seats. TVK, they claimed, has indicated it would consider allotment if Thirumavalavan contests, and discussions are continuing.
