COIMBATORE: The Municipal Administration Department has issued fresh instructions to municipal and corporation commissioners to ensure transparent, timely and quality public services.
Additional Chief Secretary K. K. S. Bedi circulated the daily operating guidelines, noting that the department functions under the direct supervision of Minister Vijay. Commissioners have been asked to begin day-to-day field inspections before 7 am, with a focus on sanitation and solid waste management.
Senior officials have been directed to inspect public toilets and bus stands and ensure they are maintained in a clean condition. Attendance of staff must be monitored every day, and unnecessary leave should be avoided. Officials have also been told to ensure that accumulated silt and soil on roads are removed daily.
The guidelines call for expanding green cover by planting trees at reserve sites, water bodies and along roadsides. Parks must be checked to ensure children’s play equipment is in good condition, and faulty streetlights should be repaired within 24 hours.
Public complaints on essential issues, including drinking water supply, are to be treated as a priority and resolved. The department also stressed transparency in building permissions, warning that disciplinary action will be taken against officials in case of rule violations.
