New Delhi: The DMK has sought separate seating in the Lok Sabha, a move that is being read in political circles as a fresh sign of strain with the Congress.

According to the report, Congress ended its working arrangement with the DMK and joined hands with TVK, also securing ministerial posts. In the aftermath, DMK parliamentary party leader Kanimozhi wrote to Speaker Om Birla saying DMK MPs did not wish to sit with Congress MPs and requested separate seating.

The Speaker is said to have agreed to allocate a separate seat. In the front row, five seats are earmarked for the INDIA bloc, where Congress leader K C Venugopal, Rahul Gandhi, DMK’s T R Baalu, Kanimozhi and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav had been seated.

With the new arrangement, the DMK is expected to get only one seat in the front row instead of two, raising questions over whether Baalu or Kanimozhi will occupy it. The report also claims DMK MPs will not sit next to Rahul Gandhi.

Delhi-based political chatter further suggests the DMK may no longer back Congress decisions in Parliament and could instead support BJP-introduced bills, as a way to “teach Congress a lesson” and create pressure on TVK.
