The Haryana government has announced plans to build what it says will be India’s tallest building in Gurugram, as part of its upcoming “Global City” development.

The Global City project is being developed over around 1,000 acres near an expressway, with the stated goal of boosting economic growth and creating world-class infrastructure. Officials expect the campus to emerge as a large commercial centre that can attract international companies and global investors.

Over the past three years, the state government has held detailed discussions with leading real estate firms from Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai on the master plan and infrastructure feasibility. At the core of the project, a 6.7-acre site has been earmarked for a landmark commercial-and-residential tower.

The proposed skyscraper is planned to rise between 2,000 and 2,300 feet. The Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation has identified the location, and the government says the project—if realised—would also place the tower among the world’s top 10 tallest buildings.

At present, India’s tallest building is Mumbai’s Palais Royale, which stands at 984 feet.
