India declared their first innings at 564/8 on Day 2 of the one-off Test against Afghanistan at Chandigarh, after opting to bat first.

India’s top order set the tone on the opening day, with KL Rahul scoring a century and captain Shubman Gill also reaching three figures. Sai Sudharsan made 81, while Rishabh Pant added a half-century as India closed Day 1 strongly at 368/3.

Resuming on Day 2, Gill moved on from 103 but was dismissed for 126. India then lost wickets at intervals, with Dhruv Jurel (19), Pant (81), Manav Suthar (28) and Mohammed Siraj (22) departing.

Washington Sundar remained unbeaten after scoring a half-century (52*), as India declared with eight wickets down. For Afghanistan, Mohammad Saleem claimed six wickets, while Sharif and Hasmatullah took one each.

Afghanistan began their first innings and suffered an early setback, losing Abdul Malik for 16.
