Tehran: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has urged US President Donald Trump to stop “daydreaming” and “understand reality,” rejecting suggestions of a possible meeting with Iran’s new supreme leader.

Trump recently told reporters at the White House that he would have no hesitation in meeting Iran’s new supreme leader if a permanent peace agreement could be reached. He added that such a meeting was not a personal desire, but something he would consider an honour if it helped secure an amicable deal between the two countries.

Responding to those remarks, Araghchi ruled out the possibility of such a meeting. He said there had been no substantive progress in talks so far, though both sides continue to exchange messages through intermediaries.

Araghchi also said Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has not appeared in public due to the current war situation and security concerns. He added that Mojtaba continues to oversee the country’s key decisions.

According to the report, Iran’s former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in a February 28 airstrike carried out by joint US-Israel forces, and Mojtaba assumed the role in March.
