Pyongyang: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has ordered the country’s leading defence equipment manufacturer to increase missile production capacity by 2.5 times, according to state media.
The ruling Workers’ Party’s official newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, said Kim visited a major defence production facility and conducted an on-site inspection. During the visit, he instructed that the capacity to produce ballistic and cruise missiles be expanded over the next five years.
The report said a plan outlining measures to raise missile production capacity was submitted to Kim during the inspection.
Kim was quoted as saying that demand for missiles has risen sharply and that production must be expanded accordingly. He also directed that a proposal on the expansion be prepared for submission at the upcoming 9th Central Committee meeting.
