New Delhi: With Assembly elections scheduled in several states next year, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is reportedly preparing a series of decisive organisational moves aimed at strengthening the party and improving its electoral prospects.
According to sources, Rahul recently held discussions with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and general secretary K.C. Venugopal on the party’s strategy and leadership structure.
Elections are expected in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa in February–March next year, followed by polls later in the year in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat. Except for Punjab, Congress is expected to face the BJP in direct contests in the remaining states.
The party is said to be considering significant changes across these seven states, including the possibility of replacing state unit heads. In addition, new Congress leaders are expected to be appointed for Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Assam, while Kerala—where the party recently returned to power—is also likely to get a new state chief.
Looking further ahead, Rajasthan’s Assembly election is due in 2028, and there is speculation that Sachin Pilot could be appointed as the state Congress president as part of the broader reshuffle being planned.
