Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government on Saturday issued fresh guidelines enabling the public to register certain deeds online without visiting sub-registrar offices.
The Registration Department said the “visit-free document registration” initiative was introduced in March to simplify procedures. Under the system, applicants can submit documents through the department’s website from anywhere and at any time.
Once a sub-registrar approves the registration, the digitally signed document will be sent to the concerned person via WhatsApp, from where it can be downloaded.
The department noted that the “Anywhere Registration” process is proposed to be made mandatory in the near future, and issued norms accordingly.
Documents currently eligible for visit-free registration include first sale of plots, first sale of flats, Tamil Nadu Housing Board sale documents, and mortgage and receipt documents related to bank loans. Applicants must create their own login on the Registration Department website, upload Aadhaar for executants, claimants and witnesses, and complete Aadhaar verification through fingerprint or iris authentication. For queries, the department listed helpline numbers: 7397574067, 9940446694, 6369798973 and 8525805957.
