R Praggnanandhaa, who won the Norway Chess title, met Chief Minister Vijay at the Chennai Secretariat on Sunday and received his congratulations.

The Tamil Nadu-born Indian grandmaster’s victory has drawn wide appreciation, as he became the first Indian to win the Norway Chess tournament.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister invited Praggnanandhaa to play a game of chess at the Secretariat. The two played on a board arranged at the venue.

CM Vijay later presented Praggnanandhaa with a cash prize of Rs 50 lakh in recognition of his achievement.

Speaking to reporters afterwards, Praggnanandhaa said the Chief Minister himself asked for the chessboard and played with interest, adding that Vijay played well.
