A petition has been filed before the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court seeking to prevent political interference in the appointment of government lawyers.
The plea comes as appointments are being made for government counsel positions in the High Court and district courts following a change in government in Tamil Nadu. In this backdrop, social media posts claimed that a list was circulated on behalf of the Congress party—an ally in the ruling coalition—suggesting names for specific courts.
Madurai-based advocate Selvakumar, in his petition, sought transparency in the selection process and urged that only qualified advocates be appointed without political influence.
The matter was heard by a bench comprising Justices Sathishkumar and Jothi Raman. The judges said the petition would be heard along with an already pending case on the issue.
