A high-voltage electricity cable reportedly snapped and fell in the Sreesakara Nagar residential area near Mangadu in Kancheepuram district on Monday morning.
The incident occurred in a locality with many houses and apartment blocks, raising concern among residents as the fallen cable lay close to a school.
People in the area said they immediately attempted to inform the electricity board about the snapped line and sought urgent action.
Residents alleged that electricity board staff did not remove the fallen cable promptly, calling it negligence given the risk in a densely populated neighbourhood.
