Senior Trinamool Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sukendu Sekhar Ray has resigned from his parliamentary post and also stepped down from the party’s primary membership.

His resignation comes amid reported internal turmoil in the Trinamool Congress following the party’s heavy defeat in the West Bengal Assembly election. The report said several leaders have been leaving the party in the aftermath.

In his resignation letter, Ray said the recent election reflected strong public support for the BJP, which he attributed to public dissatisfaction with what he described as Mamata Banerjee’s 15-year “anarchic rule.” He cited issues such as corruption, atrocities against women, law and order, and employment.

Ray also said a new government has begun work to take West Bengal on a development path. Stating that he accepts the people’s verdict, he said he was resigning from both the Rajya Sabha and the party’s basic membership.
