New Delhi: Four MLAs who resigned from the AIADMK and later joined TAVEK have filed caveat petitions in the Supreme Court.

The legislators—Isakki Subbiah, Maragatham Kumaravel, Jayakumar and Sathyabama—had won as AIADMK candidates in the recently concluded Assembly election, but subsequently stepped down from their MLA posts and joined TAVEK.

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court by advocate Krishnamoorthy seeking a CBI probe against the four and also requesting that they be barred from contesting in any by-election.

Meanwhile, the Speaker on Monday delivered an order after hearing the AIADMK’s plea under the anti-defection law, stating that proceedings have been initiated against the four under the law.

If action under the anti-defection law is sustained, the four could be prevented from contesting elections for the remainder of the current Assembly’s term. In this backdrop, they have sought that the Supreme Court should not pass any order without hearing their side.
