Chennai: Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Arunraj, on Sunday advised medical students and graduates to make daily newspaper reading a habit, comparing it to studying medical textbooks.
He was speaking at the 190th convocation of Madras Medical College (MMC), held at Kalaivanar Arangam in Chennai. During the event, the minister launched an alumni website for former MMC students (alumnimmc.com) and also registered his own name as an alumnus.
In his address, Arunraj said choosing one’s path with clarity can lead to success, and reiterated his commitment to public service. He added that MMC doctors would be sent abroad to learn about medical education and new technologies.
The minister also said sports infrastructure for medical students would be improved, stressing that life should include more than books alone. He cautioned students against being confined to social media and urged them to read newspapers every day, along with other books.
Noting that graduates would face new challenges beyond the safety of campus life, he asked them to stay confident. He also said a meeting with Tamil Nadu doctors working abroad would be organised soon.
