Chennai: A section of DMK functionaries has urged the party to contest the upcoming local body elections on its own, according to feedback gathered by a party review team.

The DMK recently suffered a defeat in the Assembly elections. To assess the reasons, the party leadership formed a committee to conduct constituency-wise field reviews.

During district visits, the committee sought views from DMK office-bearers on election work, including the role played by alliance partners.

Many functionaries told the committee that alliance parties did not extend adequate cooperation during the Assembly polls. They argued that the DMK should therefore contest alone in the local body elections and in future elections as well.
