Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran has instructed district presidents and office-bearers to meet party workers directly in their areas and intensify organisational work to expand the party.
The direction was issued at a consultation meeting of state office-bearers and district heads held at the BJP district office in Tiruchirappalli. Party observers Sudhakar Reddy and Arvind Menon, senior leaders including Tamilisai and Vanathi, and other state functionaries attended.
According to a party office-bearer, the meeting reviewed the party’s defeat in the Assembly election and discussed the next phase of political initiatives. The gathering also deliberated on former state president K Annamalai’s exit from the BJP and his launch of a new outfit.
Nagendran was quoted as saying that the BJP’s national leadership handled seat-sharing talks with the AIADMK and secured the 27 constituencies allotted to the party. He also asked leaders not to criticise those who left the party, and instead work to bring back former functionaries.
He further directed each office-bearer to meet booth committee, branch and mandal-level workers and coordinators, understand their needs and convey them to the party leadership. State office-bearers are expected to tour districts and hold constituency-wise meetings with local functionaries.
Meanwhile, in Senthamangalam in Namakkal district, more than 500 people including a BJP district vice-president and a district secretary reportedly quit the party and joined Annamalai’s “Idhu Namma Iyakkam”.
