Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has served the nation and its people for 12 years without taking a single day off. Shah made the remarks in a social media post marking the day Modi took oath for a third consecutive term.

Shah said the country has, under Modi’s leadership, seen poverty-focused welfare and “unprecedented” development progress together. He listed measures such as free food grains for 80 crore people, the inauguration of over 90 airports, and the launch of more than 140 Vande Bharat trains.

He also cited the provision of permanent houses to over four crore poor families, the construction of 1.45 lakh km of roads and 3,000 km of modern expressways, health insurance cover up to Rs 5 lakh for 50 crore people, and LPG connections for over 10 crore families. Shah said these efforts helped position India as the world’s fastest-growing economy.

Separately, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said India’s external affairs ministry and foreign policy have undergone major changes over the past 12 years. He pointed to the creation of digital platforms for grievance redressal and feedback, and responses during crises including the Ukraine, Israel, Afghanistan and Sudan conflicts.

Jaishankar added that welfare initiatives for Indian students abroad were implemented, Indian culture was promoted overseas, and 44 embassies and consulates were opened to meet the needs of Indians living and travelling abroad. He said Indian diplomacy now works round the clock for the country, strengthening confidence among Indians travelling overseas.
