Mumbai: An official from Israel’s embassy in India said a proposal has been forwarded to the Israeli government to install a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji in Israel.

Speaking at an event in Mumbai, embassy official Yaniv Revach said Israel recognises Shivaji’s influence and importance in India, and that the idea is being pursued as a long-term plan rather than a routine project.

He added that the statue is expected to be set up in one of Israel’s major cities, with the initiative aimed at strengthening people-to-people ties between Indians and Israelis.

Revach also said he sought information about Shivaji from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who agreed to provide it promptly.
